Therapeutic Ultrasound is a method of stimulating the tissue beneath the skin’s surface using very high frequency sound waves. These sound waves are absorbed primarily by connective tissue: ligaments, tendons, and fascia (and also by scar tissue). There are three primary benefits of ultrasound:
- Faster and more efficient healing process by increased blood flow in treated area
- Lower pain due to reduced swelling and edema
- Gentle massage to muscles, tendons, and/or ligaments in treated area
Ultrasound does not apply any strain to the tissues and scar tissue is softened.
